Reflections: October 18-19, 2008

This week's "Reflection" by Jeff Taylor, Pastor of Teaching & Youth

Worshipping God when you just aren't feeling it can be really tough. We see in scripture that God can be honored even in our laments and in times when we feel "blah." What are some ways that you have brought worship to God while feeling as though you are in a wilderness? Your responses could help others as they go through their own wilderness experiences.

  1. Thank you for another great sermon/lesson last Sunday. You really have a gift of helping believers apply the Bible in practical ways. The point you made about "making the mundane and rountine things in your life sacred" was especially powerful. Although I do try to pray as I go about my daily activities, I never thought about doing it in such a specific way (pray for a different person each time I load a dish into the dishhwasher).

I am trying to consistently put this into practice. I had an opportunity to do this yesterday at work. I work occasionally as a part-time substitute both teaching regular education and as an instructional assistant for special needs children. Some of the children I work with have severe handicaps and part of my job is to help them in "mundane" tasks such as toileting, changing, feeding, lifting from wheel chair, etc. Anyway, I am now trying to remember to pray for these children each time I am performing a "less than pleasant task". These are such precious kids and I know they can use a lot of prayer.

One project I have been avoiding is cleaning out my over-stuffed walk-in closet. (Full of clothes I just know that I will someday fit into again!!!!) Wow, think of all the people I can pray for each time I put another item into the Goodwill bag! Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the amount of people I have on my prayer list . . . hence I give up . . now I know they can all get prayed for as I go about my daily tasks.
