This week's "Reflection" by Gary Keith, Executive & Teaching Pastor
This week in our series, "Where's God in this Mess?" We learned about how the burdens of life can be great and bring us to a point of despair. Moses cried out to God in his moment of despair and God answered with a solution. Part of that solution was to share the burden with others - to let other spirit filled people help shoulder the burden with you.
I'm sure this was something that many people realize to be true but how many of us really live in a way that let's other people into our lives. After all we Americans are individuals who many times think we can do it all on our own. But the truth is we need each other - in fact God has wired us for relationship with other people. we need each other. Like the song says, "People who need people are the luckiest people in the world!"
As I was reflecting on the message today I realized that many times I know I need the help of others but that American "can do" attitude kicks in and I try to do it all on my own. How about you?
Is it hard for you to ask for help from others? Not only that but in our passage today it was clear that the kind of people that helped Moses were spirit-filled people. Would you know who to ask for help when you need it? What do you think about the need to have a spirit-filled person as the one who helps you shoulder your burden?
Let's talk - write your thoughts on the BLOG below.
After listening to Sunday's message online, (Thank You so much, for this service!).The scripture that came to my mind was Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up".
ReplyDeleteHaving recently moved to the Inland Empire I realize how vitally important it is to be in fellowship with other believers especially when the difficult times come, it is good to know who and where the saints are and surround yourself with them!.
The saying 'No man is an Island unto himself' is true, those who do not ask for help, who try to do it alone, who don't seek the Lord (and where He may be found) usually end up the lone sheep. They quickly become completely isolated, physically spiritually and relationally. In turn become easy snackings for the devil who like a lion is seeking whom he may devour.
Scripture further states,"Though one may be over powered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not easily broken"-Ecc 4:12.
Yes, as a fellow sheep who is finding my local flock, I agree to the importance of having spirit Filled friends during difficult times ,and being a Spirit-filled friend to some one else. Can mean the difference between life and death.
Thank you LBF for your sermons online, and your Blog, You've definitely reached this sheep.
Baaa for now,
Lydia.
I so much appreciated the opportunity to pray for the lady that sat next to me. She was couragous enough to stand for that prayer. We all need help in these times, question is, are we willing to stand and ask for what we need. Thanks
