Reflections: July 28-29, 2007

This week's "Reflection" by Russ Parker, LBF Business Administrator

This past weekend more than 150 of our church members and attenders took part in Serve Day. LBF provided leadership for seven projects that blessed our community and served people and ministry in need. What a huge success it was! From washing cars to painting houses to checking blood pressure, there were lots of ways to get involved on Serve Day.

I personally have heard numerous stories from the day...stories about how blessed we were to serve and show Christ's love, and stories of how amazingly that love was accepted.

Did you participate in Serve Day? We want to hear about your experiences as we celebrate the ways God moved on July 28th.

  1. During our Free Car Wash "no really, it's free...no, we won't take a donation, ma'am please put your money away..." we had a gentleman drive come through in a sport'ed out car...you know the kind with a loud muffler and big speakers that shake your mirrors when parked next to em? Anyway, when he came through our line and after asking why we were doing this (washing cars for free) he asked if we were from a church. I told him we were and he tentatively asked, "will you pray for my mom? she's going into surgery for her neck...and she really could use prayer." I told him I would and asked for her name. He wrote it down for me and thanked me for the willingness to pray for her and for washing his car. I'd ask you all to pray for her too...her name is Angela. Thanks!

  2. Our Serve Day was to serve the homeless a meal, at a church, in Ontario. We served 150-175 people. What a blessing to see their appreciation and how they enjoyed their Ham dinner and dessert so much. Many asked for a "second helping" and a "box to go". We went there to serve them but, we received a huge blessing, instead! We, also, met a lot of nice people that had volunteered for Serve Day, as well.

  3. I was part of the "absolutely free car wash". I had a lady get out of her car and ask me, (under her breath) "Ok, why are you guys REALLY doing this?" I informed her that it was for the simple reason of "making her day". She said that she was shocked to find anybody that was willing to do anything for free and was very greatful for our willingness to help her out. It was so cool to get to do something for someone and be able to break down the negative assumptions that people have that everyone must have an agenda that benefits them somehow. I was glad to be a part of this project and really look forward to the next opportunity.
