Reflections: March 29-30, 2008

This week's "Reflection" by Gary Keith, Pastor of Teaching/Worship

As I reflected on the message of this weekend, my first thought was centered on the name and person of Jesus. Why do so many try and explain spirituality by leaving out the name and person of Jesus? I have never personally been offended by that name, but it seems that so many in our culture ignore or dismiss or altogether reject the name of Jesus. I must confess, I just don't understand how someone could have a problem with the message Jesus brought.

I know that I have found meaning and purpose in life through the message of Jesus. I have found the answer to why I'm here and who I am and it all revolves around my relationship with God through Jesus. What about you? Why do you think others reject the name of Jesus or try and ignore him? You can respond by using the blog link below.

I think some people reject Jesus because the may lack the element(s) within themselves necessary for blind faith. Some people are so fixated on certain kinds of tangible proofs they can become blinded to proofs that come in other forms than those they expect. Others, I've experienced, have been let down to such devasting degrees by someone in their lives that they couldn't possibly fatheom Jesus doing all the things He did so selflessly. I've also had one person tell me directly that Jesus was a great teacher, but that's all he was. I agree with you, Pastor Gary, I don't understand how someone could have a problem with His message either. I don't know of any other religious figure who came to this earth, died on a cross and was resurrected for the sins of mankind. -I would be utterly lost without Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I am beyond grateful for what He has done for me and His absolute love for me, for all of us! God bless you and Jeff for all you do. Thank you.

  2. It hurts my heart that some Christians even think that avoiding the name of Christ will further their agenda. For instance, in the intelligent design movement there are those who avoid naming Christ as Creator because they think it makes the message more acceptable. In fact, that approach plays right into New Age thinking--making a nebulous God more acceptable to those who think they are "spiritual" but refusing to acknowledge Christ as Creator and Lord. This method if allowed in the science classroom could further a New Age agenda with disastrous results. On the other hand naming Jesus as Lord makes Creation far more acceptable as science and garners the respect of the scientific community, even when they don't agree. That opens up evangelism opportunities by furthering the dialogue. Praise the name of Jesus--I'm so glad LBF does not shy away from his wonderful name.

    Dear In Christ,
Greetings of love to you in the name of our Master and Lord Jesus , Who died to cleanse us from all our sins.
To introduce myself , I am ANDREWS BOAKYE and a young Christian. I have no Bible and I want to please request you to send me a Study Bible. There is always sadness in my heart to go to church without a Bible ,. and when it is time to read a passage from the Bible I only become a spectator. The worst part of it is that I cannot devotionally read the words of God daily at the comfort of my home. This has affected my Christian life in the negative way.
Please, I need you to help me out of this situation. I am begging you to send me a Study Bible.
Please remember me in your daily prayers. I want to end here with much greetings.
    ANDREWS BOAKYE
