This Weekend's Message: Whose Side Are You On?

By now it is impossible to be unaware of the fact that 2012 is an election year. Campaigns are in full swing and people all around the country are taking sides.

Are you?

Is God?

Both sides certainly seem to think that God is on their side. This is nothing new. For the next several months Americans everywhere will be called to take a side, and part of the appeal will be religious in nature. Both sides of the debate will claim that they are led by God’s values (perhaps even Christian values) when it comes to their positions and policies. This can be confusing and frustrating. It can bring us to a point of looking upward and asking God, “Whose side are you on?” God has something to say in response.

  1. Before the wonderful day when my husband, Neal became a Christian, he would explain why he didn't believe in God. He pointed to a boxing match before the bell rang. In one corner, the fighter was on his knees praying for victory. In the other corner, the boxer was crossing himself and looking for victory from the heavens.

Neal couldn't figure it out, and I wasn't much help. With this new series, I am looking forward to separating God's truth from our human way of looking at things.

  2. I appreciate Pastor Franklin teaching this series which is a huge risk. There is nothing that cuts closer to the heart than religion and politics. In church we are all pretty much like minded when it comes to the "religion" but politics is not openly expressed. I applaud the decision of LB leadership to attempt this. In my 50+ years of church I do not recall ever hearing anything remotely political even though the congregation was starving for leadership in this area. I'm listening to every word. Thank you!
